Guinea-Bissau Education :
Education in Guinea-Bissau is compulsory for students aged 7 to 13. Pre-school education is taken at optional and primary levels for 3 to 6-year-old children and education is divided into 5 categories. The levels are technical and vocational education and higher education, general and supplementary secondary education, general secondary education and pre-school, primary and supplementary basic education. Although there is no vocational education in government institutions, there is vocational education in private schools. Sentro de Formasao Sao Joao Bosco and Centro de Formasao Luis Inacio Lula da Silva are two of the vocational education institutes.
Due to the limited scope of higher education in Guinea-Bissau, most students prefer to go to Portugal for higher education, and a few universities offer faculty of medicine as well as autonomous law faculties.
Guinea-Bissau has higher education rates for boys and lower rates for girls. And child labor is very noticeable.
The faculties of Economics, Sociology, Modern Languages and Journalism, Education, Law, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, and Agriculture are offered at Amilcar Cabral University in Guinea-Bissau. Each faculty has to undergo three years of training before getting a degree and then get a degree. After five years of study, law students have to earn their bachelor’s degree. Medical students need seven years with an internship which is equivalent to one MD. And taking any postgraduate study abroad is still a must.
